Steps for Choosing a New Printer

Steps for Choosing a New Printer

Nothing is worse than spending time on an important project, only to miss a deadline because of a printer problem. Whether you’re working from home or sharing an office printer, printer issues shouldn’t shut you down!

We understand that choosing the right printer can be a challenge. There’s a ton of choices, each with different features, specifications, and price points. We can help you to define your needs, understand the options, and choose the perfect printer.

Here are three tips to help you choose the right printer!

  1. What functionality do you need? – This is the top question to answer! If your printing consists of interoffice memos, emails, or the occasional letter, an inkjet printer might fit the bill. Upfront they’re less expensive than a laser printer, however, ink is expensive and can run out quickly. If you have the need for a lot of output however, consider a laser printer. The initial cost is higher, but toner cartridges last longer and you’ll spend less over the long-term. Consider your budget and available space – you may want to invest in an MFP which can also copy, scan, and fax.
  2. The features you need (and some you don’t) – All printers are not created equal! Make sure you choose a machine that meets your company’s need. Some obvious considerations: black and white or colour? Do you need scanning capabilities? Do you collaborate and share documents online? Determine your needs, check specifications, and compare devices.
  3. Can you secure the device? – If your printer is not secure, your business is at risk! If your printer is connected to your network, it needs to be protected like any other networked device.
